For those of you who have vacation homes, it’s time to get everything ready and spruced up because it is the season that you’ll be spending a lot more time there. And for those of you who’ll spend summer lounging in your own backyard, make sure you make it your own oasis this year!
There are a couple simple items and tips that can help get your rear in gear for the great outdoors. First and foremost, it’s important that you have outdoor furniture. Now, with that being said, I’m not talking about those $10 white plastic chairs we’re all familiar with. If you know you’ll be spending a vast amount of time outside grilling, having company, enjoying family time, and swimming (if you have a pool), then invest in something that can take some wear and tear and that is COMFORTABLE. Think of it as buying furniture for the inside of your house. Do you have $10 plastic chairs in your kitchen or living room? If not, give your outdoor living space the same regards as you do for the inside of your home and you’ll enjoy it that much more! Just don’t forget our rule of thumb – “You get what you pay for!”
Now that we’ve touched on the importance of durable, yet comfortable outdoor furniture, let’s move on to the specifics: fabric. I know what you’re thinking, “Fabric? You mean there are choices other than the plastic-feeling, green and white striped number we’re accustomed to seeing?” The answer is (thankfully) yes!
Like mentioned earlier, your outdoor space should be just as enjoyable, if not more so than the inside of your home. This means attention to aesthetics, practicality, and again, comfort. Sunbrella is a wonderful outdoor fabric that has been out on the market now for some time and is quickly gaining popularity as an indoor fabric. Sunbrella – don’t forget it because you might even have your indoor sofa reupholstered with it in the near future. This fade-resistant, stain-resistant, mildew-resistant fabric feels like a cotton and can be cleaned with straight bleach. It’s the wonder fabric – made for and perfect for the outdoors.
Because of its surge in demand from consumers for both indoor and outdoor use, Sunbrella fabric comes in quite a variety of colors and patterns. So, feel free to leave out your cushions and even add in some throw pillows to an outdoor sofa. This near indestructible fabric is also great to be used for outdoor curtains. So, if you’re looking for Sunbrella, we have it available here at Eklektik. Just ask one of our ladies and we’ll show you all of the great samples you have to choose from!
Also, another crucial factor for thriving in your outdoor living spaces is having the right hardware. Summer is a season full of fun, bright colors, so why not implement that with some fun plates, glasses (shatter-proof, of course!), and flatware to brighten up your outdoor tablescape. Staying hydrated is particularly key for those summer months, too, so keep plenty of drink servers or pitchers available with plenty of ice water… and maybe throw in some citrus fruit or cucumbers to keep it extra refreshing (and colorful)!
